The Premier Screenwriter Fellowship in the Pacific Northwest

The NwSG GREEN ROOM is a nine-month writing program and fellowship intended to accelerate feature film scripts designed to be produced in Washington State. By collaborating with a strong group of writers, you will further develop your screenwriting talents, your ability to pitch professional-quality scripts to the entertainment industry, and your skills in providing professional-level feedback to other writers in our creative community. Former fellows have been recruited into professional writing rooms, pitched to major studios, and hired as writers for major film productions.

2025 Green Room Leads

George Wing

George Wing

Seattle writer-producer

This year’s lead is Seattle writer-producer George Wing. George has gotten things made in the realm of studio movies (50 First Dates), independent film (Outsourced), and network television (Outsourced the NBC show). His over-arching objective is to get things made here, and support talented people working toward that goal.

Returning as the Green Room program manager is Seattle writer-director Joey Johnson. He premiered both of his feature films at the Seattle International Film Festival, starting with Shadowed in 2013, followed by Paralytic in 2016. Since then, his efforts have been focused on writing compelling projects designed to be shot in the Pacific Northwest, and helping others do the same.

How Does the Green Room Work?

Started in 2018, this program follows standard industry practices in developing a feature length film project from an idea through a draft script, including receiving ideas and feedback from other talented and experienced writers. Over twice-monthly sessions from February through October, you will:

01.

Create a one sheet (high level summary)

02.

Develop a beat sheet

03.

Create a script outline

04.

Live pitch your project

05.

Draft your script

The goal of the Green Room is for each fellow to develop a completed draft of a feature film script designed to be shot in Washington State.

We welcome anyone to apply, regardless of writing experience. Our goal is to cultivate the best set of projects each year.

Do note that fellows will be expected to submit solo original work (no shared bylines), pitch their project, read and provide quality feedback for their peers’ work on a steady schedule–similar to professional screenwriting expectations. We will meet twice a month, and you will need to complete these assignments by the stated deadlines. Please apply only if you can commit to these expectations.

Meetings will be a hybrid of both in-person and online sessions. These will be working meetings. Fellows are expected to participate by providing both work and feedback.

The Green Room represents an unparalleled opportunity to elevate your craft, develop your professional and writing networks, and take the next step in your film career.

All while developing high-level constructive feedback techniques to elevate your peers
